With so much variation on the market, choosing a sofa for your home can be a difficult choice. You must make sure you choose a sofa in a style, fabric and colour you like whilst ensuring it provides adequate seating space and fits to the dimensions of the room.
We’ve put together a list of 5 important sofa buying tips that you should take in to account when shopping for your new sofa.
1 – Style
This is a very important thing to think about when choosing a sofa, as it’s crucial to ensure your new sofa will suit the style and decor of the room it’s going into. If your room is traditionally styled, you’ll want to go with a sofa to match. If you have a modern home, contemporary sofas will fit in to the surroundings giving the room a sleek look.
When you’re choosing a sofa, go for one in a design and colour that you like that will suit the surrounding style of the room that it’s in.
2 – Fabric
The Fabric you choose for your next sofa is arguably equally as important as the styling. Do you have a specific preference for leather sofas, or perhaps tweed – fabric is a big factor in whether or not a sofa is right for you.
When you’re choosing what fabric you should opt for with your new sofa, you should take into account not only the styling but also the comfort that the sofa will provide you with. Sofas aren’t cheap, and you wouldn’t want to pay out for a sofa that you don’t even like sitting on!
If you like to keep your home up to date with the latest interior design fashions, we recommend you opt for a neutral fabric. This way it won’t stand out too much and you can update it with throws and scatter cushions when new trends come in.
3 – Room Size
This vital factor is often overlooked which can be a very risky move. If you don’t measure up your room size before you buy your sofa, you may realise that it doesn’t fit where you want it. And if not that it could leave your room looking out of proportion if you put a huge sofa in a small room. You should also think about depth and height of the sofa to ensure it doesn’t look too big or small in the room.
To be on the safe side we highly recommend you take accurate measurements of your room and the space you wish for the sofa to go before you head out to make a purchase.
4 – Seating Space
You’re obviously going to want to provide enough seating space for everybody living in the home, and you need to take this into account when you’re choosing a sofa. You should also think about how you’re going to spend your time on it.
Will you be lying down on the sofa often to relax? If so you should invest in a sofa with lots of room between the arms. If you do plan on lying down on the sofa often, choosing a sofa with low arms is also a great idea as it allows you to rest your head and your feet without being made uncomfortable by steep sofa arms.
Take note that a lot of sofas are available in multiple different sizes, so depending on which sofa you’d like this might not be an issue at all.
